The Beatles: The Rolling Stones so-called arch nemesis. However, in real life, it was the opposite. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were great friends. It was only for marketing purposes that The Stones were portrayed as the “bad boys” and “anti-Beatles.”

Muddy Waters: The inspiration behind the band’s name. In June 1962, Rolling Stones co-founder, Brian Jones, was on the phone with someone from Jazz News, a music publication, trying to promote his still unnamed band. He was asked what they were called by the person and, in a panic, he had to come up with a name on the fly. “The Best of Muddy Waters’ album was lying on the floor and track one was ‘Rollin’ Stone Blues.”

1963: The year hair styles were a huge trend and considered by many to be outrageous. To shake things up, the Rolling Stones took out a newspaper ad during Christmas saying, “Best wishes to all of the starving hairdressers and their families.”

2003: In this year, Mick Jagger was knighted for “services to popular music.” Keith Richards is reportedly highly skeptical of the knighthood and thinks it goes against the Stones’ anti-establishmentarianism.
